Newcombe Farm was exceptional project that began with a client’s vision rather than formal drawings. The client approached us with the concept for a small barn conversion that would serve as a dedicated home gym. From this initial idea, we undertook a comprehensive design and build process, delivering the project as a complete turnkey package.
To ensure the highest standards of energy efficiency and comfort, a full thermal upgrade was implemented across all key structural elements, including the floors, walls, and ceilings. The primary gym space was designed to embrace the barn’s original character while incorporating modern design elements. High vaulted ceilings were preserved and enhanced with exposed timber trusses, complemented by carefully positioned drop pendant lighting to create a striking yet functional aesthetic.
A key architectural feature of the conversion was the installation of expansive, floor-to-ceiling black aluminium-framed windows along the external wall. These not only maximise natural light but also establish a seamless visual connection between the interior and the surrounding landscape. Low-lying oak-covered sills were integrated to harmonise with the flooring, reinforcing the natural material palette and enhancing the overall aesthetic cohesion of the space.
A subtle yet practical level change was introduced to transition from the gym area to the adjoining wetroom, changing room, and WC. The wetroom was meticulously designed and constructed, with the entire space tanked using Wedi board to ensure complete water resistance. High-quality fixtures and fittings were carefully selected to align with the project’s contemporary design ethos, including a separate valved shower, a suspended wall-hung toilet with a concealed cistern, and a sleek yet practical vanity unit. The modern theme was consistently carried through the entire project, with a carefully curated colour scheme that unified all elements of the design.
One of the standout aspects of this project was its integration of an advanced renewables package, reinforcing our commitment to sustainable and energy-efficient construction. Additionally, this conversion extended beyond our standard design and build approach, incorporating a refined interior design element that elevated the overall execution.
