Dye House Farm, Willand, Devon

Culmex was asked to make significant end-to-end changes to Dye House Farm, to create a welcoming, contemporary barn conversion.

The original barn was an old stable area and ‘piggery’. Due to poor foundations we had to totally demolish the piggery which is the brick side extension and rebuild using a a cavity blockwork and brick slip system. Within the main barn structure we took out all the floors and reinstated new thermally compliant floors with a full underfloor heating system.

The existing roof was not level so we removed the roof, built the wall plates up level with matching stonework to one side and timber cladding the other. We then reinstated a new roof with feature trusses internally. We installed a damp proofing system inside followed by new timber studwork and a full thermal upgrade to the walls.

We had Idigbo timber windows made by a local joinery company with barn doors and french doors installed. The whole house was then plasterboarded and skimmed. We then installed all new bathrooms from Mayflower in Taunton with fully tiled bathrooms supplied and installed by our team, and a new kitchen designed by the customer from Howdens.

The project was then painted and floor that was a mix of timber, carpet and tiles laid by our team. The barn is powered by an air source heat pump, with mains electric water and mains sewer. We also had high speed fibre installed.
