We’ve just wrapped up one of the most rewarding projects we’ve ever taken part in: DIY SOS: The Big Build in Feniton, Devon. Being invited back on Thursday 14th November for the big reveal was an honour in itself – and an emotional reminder of why we do what we do.
A project with real purpose
At Culmex Construction, we take pride in creating spaces that genuinely improve people’s lives. But projects like DIY SOS in Devon take that purpose to another level. This wasn’t simply a renovation it was a lifeline for a family who truly needed a fresh start.
To stand alongside so many tradespeople, volunteers and local businesses, all coming together for one family, was something incredibly special. The atmosphere on site throughout the build and on reveal day was electric – full of determination, compassion and community spirit.
Meeting the Team
Reveal day gave us the chance to reconnect with the incredible DIY SOS team:
Nick Knowles, whose passion and energy drive the heart of the show
Billy Byrne, bringing both humour and unmatched expertise
Gaby, who added warmth and positivity to every corner of the site
And of course, the legendary purple shirts – the volunteers and crew who make the seemingly impossible happen week after week
Working alongside them was a privilege we won’t forget.
Our role in the build
Our team at Culmex Construction was hands-on throughout the project, contributing our skills and experience to support the wider effort. Seeing the transformation come together piece by piece, and knowing the impact it would have on the family’s daily life, made every long day worthwhile.
The reveal itself was filled with emotion. Watching the family see their new home for the first time reminded us exactly why we step up for community projects like this. It’s moments like those that stay with you.
